The Colorado Beetle Kill Trade Association (BKTA), was formed in 2008 by a consortium of businesses interested in making a difference as well as a profit using Beetle Kill timbers. Many of the members of this association have attended many different meetings, been part of many different task forces and committees whose stated purpose was to attempt to “Do something about the beetle kill problem”.
Our members have attended these meetings with the hope that something will come to light, something that will make a difference. Many of them have made a small difference in their local area but the real problem is larger than just a local solution. The founding members of the BKTA did so with the idea that if we were to unify all the organizations that are trying to make a difference, create a single organization whose purpose it was to collect up and implement the ideas and solutions of entrepenuers, governments and individuals statewide, we could become greater than the sum of our parts.
Our collective resources, ideas and efforts will create an infrastructure that will allow an economy to be generated around the beetle kill problem. Value can be created in the dead trees and incentive can exist to spend money to remove hazardous fuel materials from our mountainsides and our private lands.
